Cassina Violoncello lounge chair by Piero de Martini

About the Item

This extraordinary lounge chair from Cassina impresses with its expansive yet inviting design. The black-gray mottled canvas of the armchair is in good condition. The light wooden frame, probably beech, is very solid and shows few signs of wear. This violoncello lounge chair is much less common than its big brother Viola d`Amore. The cello was designed in the late 1970s by Piero de Martini, who had been collaborating with Cassina since 1975. The Italian manufacturer is known for exceptional design and signed the exclusive license agreement in 1964 to process the furniture designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.

  • Mario Bellini 'Cab' Lounge Chair, by Cassina
    By Cassina, Mario Bellini
    Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Loounge chair designed by Mario Bellini in 2015. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. Roomy and inviting, Cab Lounge is a restatement of the Cab chair concept. Nothing short of a masterpiece of craftsmanship, the Cab Lounge armchair is perfectly suited to both residential or contract use. The leather upholstery fits the tubular steel frame like an exquisitely tailored garment, complementing the curves, in a perfect symbiosis between the structural and the organic. The eleven leather sections, hand-stitched and fitted with four zipper closures, undergo fourteen hand-executed processes before they are complete. Fitted with a reclining mechanism, the five-spoke base sets off the entire chair, while the ergonomically correct design renders it extraordinarily comfortable; the care taken in the details is without equal. In 2015 the Milan Triennale awarded him the Gold Medal for his career in architecture and in 2017 dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him. The same exhibition that will be organized again in Moscow in March 2019. Since 1991 he is Royal Honorary Designer of RDI.
