Novo Rumo - very rare Lounge Chair with Ottoman, 1970s
About the Item
Novo Rumo, a name that translates to 'New Direction,' was an influential furniture company that emerged during the heyday of Brazilian Modernism. Established in 1955, Novo Rumo played a pivotal role in defining and popularizing Brazilian furniture design, both within Brazil and on the global stage. The founders included designers like Geraldo de Barros and Rubem Martins, who collectively sought to create furniture that embodied modernist principles while also reflecting Brazil's unique cultural and material heritage.
This unique and very rare piece was designed and produced in very small numbers in the 1970s and is excellent for collectors. Its structure is made of tubular steel with a final finish in silver chrome plating. When it was purchased, the original structure was oxidized over time and the chrome was almost non-existent. Using non-invasive professional restoration
techniques, the imperfections were corrected mechanically and plated with new chrome.
Completely re-upholstered with genuine lbrown leather. Unfortunately due to the studio lighting, the main foto does not show the true color. Please check out the other fotos where the brown color is more authentic.
