Designed by Robert Foster Jr. in the early 1960's this exquisite set of angular armchairs for Foster McDavid, a small Tampa-based boutique furniture company established in 1950-1975, is proof that American designers could compete with their Scandinavian counterparts of the mid-century period. With playful geometric patterns carved from the black walnut backrests that scream "1960's" and featuring newly upholstered cushions in a fabulous white cotton bouclé by Knoll Fabrics this set of Atomic-era lounge chairs is truly unlike any other. Building only limited numbers of pieces, usually no more than 500-700 for any particular model, the beauty of these Foster McDavid armchairs is matched only by their rarity. This low profile armchair set is perfect for collectors and designers searching for an authentic vintage period piece for an Atomic Florida aesthetic. Make these pieces of American Mid-Century Modern history yours today and elevate your hosting space to new, atomic heights. Currently four chairs available. ---Dimensions--- Width: 23 in / 58.42 cm Depth: 26.5 in / 67.31 cm Height: 29 in / 73.66 cm Seat Height: 16 in Arm Height: 20.5 in This incredible set of low profile armchairs, produced by Foster McDavid, have recently undergone a partial restoration featuring new upholstery. The solid black walnut frames are in 100% original, vintage condition and have aged to perfection showing only minor signs of vintage wear such as minor surfaces scratches and nicks (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but showing no stains, gouges or other damage whatsoever. The seats, redone in a fabulous white cotton bouclé by Knoll fabrics, show no signs of wear whatsoever and are complete with new medium-density foam for maximum comfort. These aesthetically captivating chairs are comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Please view all photos for details on this chair set's current condition. Stunning vintage Mid-Century Modern Foster-McDavid dining chairs set of 4 comprised of walnut frames and the original cobalt blue faux leather upholstery. This is a set of four vintage dining chairs by Foster-McDavid comprised of gorgeous walnut frames and the original cobalt blue faux Naugahyde leather upholstery on the seats and backs. They have high tapered backs with a wonderfully unusual design as the fabric wraps over the top and extends about a quarter of the way down the walnut back… it’s really a stunning feature! Also, the straight, square tapered back legs extend about a quarter of the way up the lower back of the chairs as one piece… also a stunning feature!! We found a quote online from Robert Foster...
