Solid Ash Danish Style Cognac Leather Strap 128 Lounge Chairs by De La Espada

About the Item

These De La Espada 128 lounge chairs are the first we've had from this maker and we're seriously impressed. Not to be outdone by the impeccable Scandinavian Modern design, the materials, fit and finish are superb. The solid, honey colored ash wood contrasts perfectly with the dark cognac leather straps. The ash is finished in Danish oil to preserve and protect the wood without muting the beautiful grain. The smooth straps interweave to form a seat and back that provide both powerful support and comfortable suspension. De La Espada timber is sustainably harvested. The trees on the farms are pruned regularly to allow for consistent grain patterns and fewer knots, ensuring exceptionally strong planks of the highest quality. Mortise and tenon joints, dovetailing and lap joints combined with slow-drying wood glue that seeps deep into the fibers of the solid wood create strong, unbreakable bonds adding long life to every piece of furniture they make. Our restoration team cleaned, conditioned and touched-up the original dark brown cognac leather. The leather straps were also cleaned and conditioned to stave off cracking down the road. Finally, the frames were detailed top to bottom. About De La Espada: De La Espada furniture is where the creativity of some of the world’s leading designers meets the highest level of European craftsmanship. We focus on the key pieces of furniture for the home: A place to eat, rest, sleep and work. Our dedicated solar-powered factory in Portugal is at the heart of our business. Specialising in solid wood, our expert craftspeople combine advanced technology with handcraft to create truly unique, meaningful objects. Each product is meticulously detailed and engineered to last a lifetime.De La Espada work closely with carefully selected international design partners. The De La Espada product range reflects the diversity of the collaborators as well as a unifying approach to materiality, craft, functionality, and longevity. From the designer to the craftsperson, there is pride in work well done, in rising to challenges and getting every detail right. De La Espada products are imbued with warmth and meaning brought by the hands that bear them. De La Espada was founded in 1993 by Luis De Oliveira and Fatima De La Espada. Hailing from Porto and Madrid respectively and educated in London, the founders opened the first De La Espada store in London in 1996, when there was comparatively little quality contemporary furniture in the city. The De La Espada aesthetic evolved from influences including the Arts and Crafts movement, architects such as Tadao Ando, Luis Barragán, John Pawson, and Álvaro Siza, and Scandinavian design from the 1950s. De La Espada operated as a designer/manufacturer/retailer of our own products until 2007 when we began to enter into the second phase of the business. Since 2007, we have taken a more collaborative approach, working closely with carefully selected design partners and retailers across the world, combining expertise and exchanging cultures, friendships, and ideas.

Vintage Witco Tiki King Throne Hand-Carved Highback Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur
By William Westenhaver / Witco, Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Adorned top to bottom with hand-carved intricate detail. These highly collectible and hard to find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations. Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco in 1959. The two capitalized on the exotica trend by creating lavishly bold, roughly carved wood furniture and decor. The delightfully dramatic furniture was so beloved during the period that Elvis created an entire “Jungle Room” in his Graceland home featuring Witco furniture! Witco remains a mainstay among collectors today. You can even see original Witco pieces still in use at Graceland, and other iconic tiki venues like Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn all located in Florida. We have other Witco items available including a pair of these conquistador chairs with arms, Witco cat...
