Tulip Group Sofa in Rosewood by K M Wilkins for G-Plan of England
By Charles and Ray Eames, Percival Lafer, Thonet, G Plan Furniture
Located in Chattanooga, TN
his extraordinary three-seater G-Plan sofa, conceived by K.M. Wilkins for the celebrated “Tulip Group,” is a rare rosewood rendition of an otherwise teak-centric line—and its presence is nothing short of enchanting. Originally purchased new in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970 by its only owners, it has remained in immaculate condition, carrying with it the quiet confidence of provenance and preservation. The design radiates sculptural grace. Gently molded rosewood panels unfurl like a blossoming tulip, their curves echoing natural form and mid-century modern lyricism. Against the sumptuous rosewood’s amber-red glow, the chrome Magnum Orbit casters shine like modern accents, marrying warmth with utility. Luxuriously soft velvet envelops the frame—an elusive tone hovering between olive-green and taupe-brown—that shifts subtly with light and angle, offering a tactile interplay as captivating as the design’s silhouette. Thoughtful restoration has ensured that elegance is matched by durability. The original webbing had troughed with age, so the sofa was completely disassembled. New industrial-grade 3-inch elastic strapping was installed, preserving the original foam while enhancing comfort for decades to come. Each rosewood panel and chrome detail was cleaned and polished, bringing renewed clarity—while a discreet wood crack on the left rosewood panel was expertly stabilized. Beyond its sculptural and tactile appeal, this sofa is woven into the narrative of British mid-century modern design. The “Tulip Group” represents K.M. Wilkins’ dedication to organic forms and domestic sculpture, and this rosewood example is an exceptionally rare embodiment of that philosophy. This piece is not just furniture—it is a collector’s statement, a living relic of design history, and a tactile centerpiece intended to be both admired and lived in. Whether in a gallery-quality space or a refined lounge, it asserts character and comfort in equal measure. Matching pair of lounge chairs also available and sold separately (see last pic). This incredible sofa was purchased new in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970. We acquired from the original owners who kept it in pristine condition. Designed by K.M. Wilkins for G-Plan of England, this line is appropriately named the "Tulip Group". Wilkins also designed the the well known Housemaster Chair, often misattributed to Ib Kofod Larsen. The "Tulip" design is demonstrated by the rosewood panels which are molded into curves that mimic a blossoming flower. Offered almost exclusively in teak, this rosewood set is truly a rare find. The rich, amber-red panels are perfectly complimented by the chrome hardware and velvet fabric. The luxuriously soft velvet is in amazing condition. The color is difficult to describe, but in our opinion, it's a cross between olive-green and taupe-brown. Of course the refraction of light on velvet can magnify or minimize the tones and highlights depending on the angle and environment. The sofa hovers on its original Magnum Orbit chrome...

1970s Post Modern Black and Chrome Dining Set with Daystrom Scoop Chairs
By Giotto Stoppino, Daystrom Furniture, Bassett Furniture, Chromcraft
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Exuding bold elegance and unapologetic mid-century charm, this four-piece dining ensemble encapsulates 1970s modernist glamour. A quartet of sculptural Daystrom “scoop” chairs—sinuously molded and deeply tufted—embraces the body while radiating visual sophistication. The chrome frames, sleek and polished, arrest the light like metallic sculptures set into motion. Upholstered in a deep black tone that flirts with velvet’s lushness and vinyl’s sheen, the chairs merge comfort with refined edge. Nestled atop tapered tubular legs, the seating invites extended evenings of conversation or repose. The generous waist of the scoop offers a gentle cradle—accentuated by tuft details that lend rhythm and tactility. These chairs are as much about presence as purpose: they beckon touch and draw admiration with their architectural silhouette. Balanced against them is a companion dining table exuding a strong modernist pedigree. A sleek smoked-glass hexagonal top rests atop a refined pedestal base, with curved chromed steel branches that bloom outward in sculptural finesse. The glass’s smoky surface softens the brightness of polished metal, creating an interplay of shadow and reflection that shifts with each angle. Together, the set unfolds like a scene in motion—the chairs poised as silhouettes around an arresting glass bloom—inviting you to inhabit them, to dine, to linger in their embrace. Daystrom, established in the mid-20th century, earned acclaim for stylish, well-crafted furniture that transformed chrome and glass into enduring design statements. The tactile grace of these chairs reflects that legacy; they are comfortable, sculptural, and thoroughly resilient. This set is not mere furniture—it is a bridge between 1970s postmodern allure and timeless design integrity. Ideal for collectors and stylists alike, it promises to elevate any space with its kinetic presence, formal ingenuity, and emotive charm. We are pleased to present this swanky dining set. This combo is everything we love about the 1970s aesthetic in one package! The chairs are by Daystrom and the table by Bassett Mirror Company.. Both companies have brought us some fabulous designs in the mid-mod period, and this marriage falls right in line with that legacy. 70's glam meets futuristic modern in this four seat dinette set. The table base is crafted curved tubular chromed steel in a unique and captivating flowering lotus pedestal style. The smoked glass hexagon top is dripping with swag on top of the hand-polished chrome glimmer. This gently used table still has its original hang tag and bumpers for the glass. The deep tufted scoop chairs...
