1930s Danish Art Deco 3-Seater Sofa in Mahogany by Frits Henningsen

About the Item

A striking 3-seater sofa in Cuban mahogany and black silk by Frits Henningsen. In competition with his teacher Kaare Klint, Henningsen was one of the outstanding Danish designers of the early 20th century. A central aim was to modernise and refine earlier 19th century designs. This classic Henningsen design is both elegant and accommodating. It was produced circa 1930. Re-upholstered more recently, the luxurious silk is in good vintage condition, with one or two marks commensurate with age. The sprung seats are very comfortable. It is in excellent structural condition. There are a few signs of age, but they do not detract from the sensational overall impression.
