    Ettore Sottsass designed this armchair after having known the Indian culture. A crucial journey in his formation is that of 1961 in India, undertaken with Fernanda Pivano. On this journey Sottsass discovers how Indian culture is strongly based on sensations, colours, the physicality and carnality of bodies; India communicates with a language that goes beyond speech. This experience will radically influence his subsequent productions, and a well-defined ideology takes shape and a conception of the object as an exercise in architecture and language, which moves away from the aesthetic trends of the time, shaking their foundations and questioning them. The value attributed to furniture is fundamental, no longer as a mere and cold object, seen in an abstract sense, but as an element full of emotion, capable not only of satisfying a need, but also of transmitting sensations.
