About the Item

This sculptural sofa was designed by Bertil Söderberg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden in the 1940s. The rare design is marked by the curved lines of the buttoned back rest, ending in wing shaped sides and upholstered arm rests. A dynamic and elegant design which looks appealing from all angles, making this piece suitable for free standing placement in a room as well. The generous dimensions and the high backrest make this a comfortable sofa to sit in. Original upholstery in a musterd yellow striped wool fabric, finished with brass upholstery nails throughout. The frame is in solid, stained beech wood with four tapered slightly legs. This sofa is in original condition, the fabric with visible signs of aging. We highly recommend reupholstering and reconditioning this piece, this can be done by our master upholsterer. The legs and are in good condition. The design was produced by Stockholm’s high end department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), who manufactured and retailed furniture designs by a number of renowned Swedish Modern designers including Axel Einar Hjorth, Elias Svedberg, Carl-Axel Acking and Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist. This particular design by Bertil Söderberg was used in the interior of the Vingården restaurant in Stockholm.
