The JG Folding Stool is one of Jørgen Gammelgaard’s most recognized pieces. Appreciated for its unique visual expression, cleverly conceived folding mechanism, high quality craftsmanship and multi-functional approach. Intrinsic to the JG Folding Stool is the simplicity and economy of materials. Every line has a purpose and every detail is essential. It’s a masterpiece in engineering and a practical design that’s appealing from any angle – even folded flat. Launched in 1970, the JG Folding Stool earned designer Jørgen Gammelgaard the prestigious Danish Furniture Prize the following year. Since then, the JG Folding Stool has achieved iconic status. The sleek, stainless steel legs expand to create a frame comprised of diagonal lines supporting a simple seat in Aniline leather or canvas. When in a folding position, all the elements easily collapse together. Dimensions Width: 60 cm / 23.6 in. Depth: 46 cm / 18.1 in. Height: 40 cm / 15.7 in. Weight: 5.6 kg / 12.3 lbs Design year: 1970 Seat: Leather Max 95, Cognac Frame: Brushed stainless steel Meet the designer Jørgen Gammelgaard (1938-1991) gained recognition as part of a new era of industrial aesthetics. His award-winning work reflects a simple, refined approach to design and a refreshing take on minimalism. Originally trained as a cabinetmaker with the well-known master Copenhagen carpenter AJ Iversen, Gammelgaard worked under Grete Jalk. After studying furniture design under Poul Kjærholm at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he worked at Arne Jacobsen’s studio in the late 1960s.
