The Seto Stool is an elegant design combining proud Scandinavian and Japanese craft traditions. Inspired by Børge Mogensen's design philosophy, the solid oak and canvas stool exudes simplicity while revealing a profound understanding of the craft. Harmoniously combining heritage and modernity. Named after Seto Ōhashi, Japan's longest bridge, Takeuchi’s stool features a distinctive H-structure echoing the bridge’s graceful profile, creating a refined and contemporary design. At first glance, the solid oak and canvas stool is a simple design focusing on appearance and material. Still, a closer look reveals that a great deal of care and thought has gone into the design, drawing from historical references and knowledge of the craft. The name Seto refers to the architectural and engineering masterpiece Seto Ōhashi, Japan's longest bridge connecting the main islands of Honshu and Shikoku. The bridge's graceful profile is evident in Takeuchi's stool with its distinctive H-structure, creating a refined and contemporary design. Takeuchi’s approach was to combine past and present designs to capture the unique design universe he perceives at Fredericia. The idea behind Seto is to transfer the mood and design language from two of Børge Mogensen's iconic creations, The Spanish Chair and Canvas Chair, which Takeuchi considers unique masterpieces and an integral part of the essence of Fredericia. The Seto Stool brings this design narrative into a contemporary context with flexibility that caters to the needs of many smaller homes and the growing demand for versatility in our furniture. Since the early 20th century, Fredericia has manufactured alluring and sophisticated Scandinavian furniture produced with the highest standards of quality in mind. The Danish brand collaborates with today’s top design talent and over time partnered with celebrated mid-century modernists such as Hans Wegner, Arne Vodder, Jens Risom — a leading figure in Scandinavian design and Knoll’s first designer — and Nanna Ditzel, whose Hanging Egg chair for Sika was a favorite for flashy fashion shoots of the 1960s.

Fredericia was founded in 1911 by N.P. Ravnsø as the Fredericia Chair Factory. In 1930, with the idea of creating a range of durable furniture made in the traditional styles of the era, Fredericia secured a license to manufacture pieces for German company Thonet.

In 1955 Danish businessman Andreas Graversen acquired Fredericia. Graversen had previously established what would become a long-lived partnership with notable furniture designer Børge Mogensen, a former teaching assistant to pioneering architect and designer Kaare Klint. Graversen sought to introduce modern flourishes to traditional Scandinavian furniture design at Fredericia — and owing to his business savvy and vision, coupled with Mogensen's artistic sensibilities and deep understanding of organic materials, the company successfully debuted various furnishings designed in the Scandinavian modern style that are still coveted today.

Fredericia brought Mogensen's iconic Spanish chair to market in 1958. With its solid European oak frame, wide armrests and suspended saddle leather seat and backrest, this signature piece solidified Fredericia's standing in Denmark — and around the world — as a premier furniture company. Mogensen designed many renowned pieces during his career at Fredericia, including the practical, rustic Hunting chair.

"Torquemada" is a stool, designed by Philippe Starck and manufactured by Driade, with a structure available in the following versions: brushed oak, brushed oak with carved backrest and seat or in matt lacquered textured beech in white, gray, yellow, lavender gray, or carnation colors. Backrest element support is in polished or mirror finished cast aluminum. Indoor use only. DIMENSIONS: D. 18.8", W. 16.1", H. 40.5", Seat H. 28.7" Although these pieces of design seem apparently imperfect and unique, the collection is composed of a table and a set of seats: a chair, an armchair and a stool. The latter feature two handcuffs in mirror-polished stainless steel, a detail that is as structural as well as decorative and ironically reminiscent of the imagery coming from the ancient Inquisition and its infamous and fearsome prosecutor.
