About the Item

The Osselet stool by Jacques Jarrige is a sculptural work that transcends the boundaries of furniture and art. Handcrafted from recycled wood and finished in a deep black lacquer, each stool is a unique expression of movement, balance, and form. With its carved contours and open voids, the piece invites light to pass through, activating the surrounding space and engaging the viewer from every angle. Jarrige’s intuitive process—often described as "drawing in space"—is at the core of the Osselet design. The interplay of positive and negative space creates a dynamic tension, lending the stool a sense of fluidity and lightness despite its solid construction. The undulating lines and hollowed volumes imbue the piece with a playful, almost anthropomorphic quality, making it not only visually striking but emotionally engaging. Its tactile surface and generous proportions make the Osselet stool unexpectedly comfortable, whether used as seating, a pedestal, or simply as an accent piece. The sensuality of its form and the depth of its finish add richness to both minimalist and more layered interiors. Originally created in recycled wood and black lacquer, the stool is also available in solid oak or custom lacquer colors. Its significance as a design object has been widely recognized—it was featured in major publications and included in the landmark 2015 Paris design exhibition Les Oracles du Design. A piece of both elegance and character, the Osselet stool is a timeless example of Jacques Jarrige’s ability to bring poetry and soul to functional form.
