Antique Italian Renaissance Style Paint Decorated Cassone

About the Item

A fine Ca. 18th c. or earlier. in dark walnut well worn. The front with pair of painted portrait medallions of a gentleman and lady in Renaissance style dress. With painted crests on the front and sides. With patinated decorative metal escutcheon and a key. The carved base with bracket feet and shaped sides. L. 51", Depth 17 1/2", H. 19 1/2" Condition: The Cassone is well worn overall especially the top warped with stable age ncracks and gouges, an old repair to the top, chips to back corners and worn base, all mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is authentic and quite charming.
