About the Item

A magnificent, scarce and richly decorated Lamari Palembang three piece cabinet on chest. Exquisitely hand-crafted in the 19th century by highly skilled Chinese or Buddhist artisans for Indonesian Royal Households, the exceptionally executed antique Lemari Palembang cabinet crafted from Tembesu, elaborately hand carved giltwood, with decadent gold gilding, laqueur painted garnet red and ebonized black accents. The bottom of piece consists of three drawers, each with hand cut dovetail joinery, original metal hardware, drawer fronts with fanciful scrolled jasmine, lotus flower and foliate motif pierced openwork carvings atop mirror background, framed by decorative running ornamentation border, over a base with undulating shaped scalloped molding, rising on very short acanthus leaf carved knee cabriole legs ending in whimsically stylized leaf form claw and ball feet. The upper section, having four glass paned single cabinet door, high relief floral carved designs throughout, incised decoration, matched running ornamentation scalloped molding and claw feet, paneled sides, surmounted by protruding shaped scrolling foliate gilded pediment The stunning, interesting and rare antique, circa 1860, present splendidly, is solid, sturdy and structurally sound. Typical elegantly aged patina, naturally distressed paint finish with very minor wear. Dimensions: (approx) 61" High, 36" Wide, 17" Deep.
