Self Portrait

About the Item

Playful and toylike to look at and meaningful in narrative. This "Self Portrait" for Norman Teague is a reflection childhood upbringing and this early object admiration for cars and fancy tire rims. This wooden bookcase is familiar as a reference to a Ferris wheel yet functional as our library for favorites. Made from turned ash wood and bending plywood. Teague has a love for Ray and Charles Eames and the process and procedures they perfected at a time of urgency. Ultimately the piece stands, rolls and rests as a narrative that rarely is told from a South siders point of view. This piece was designed and fabricated during Teague time at the School of the Art Institute working on his MFA in Designed Objects.
