Rare and probably unique Gothic bookcase from a Dutch monastery.
Hand-crafted and hand-carved in the early 1900's this small size Gothic bookcase was made in the exact same manner as it would have been in mediëval times. No screws or nails were used to put this solid oak cabinet together. In our images you can see that only solid oak dowels were used to perfectly construct this stylish piece of furniture. The former owner acquired it from a monastery in the South of Holland where it was most likely used in the bedroom of one of the monks (for keeping bibles, other small books and alike). This very good condition Gothic Revival, half open bookcase stands as strong and firm as the day it was made and it comes with a good working lock and key. It has a beautiful patina and the hand-carved doors with their trefoil elements and very basic, wrought iron handles give this unique Gothic bookcase an even more ancient look and feel.
