About the Item

This exquisite Baroque style cabinet is made of walnut veneer on a solid oakwood core. The cabinet it´s a luxury cabinet which was in the ownership of high-ranking merchant families. Bargueño of Salamanca model, also called columns, with hinged front cover, decorated on the outside with metal plates cut and pierced, applied on a background . The lock shield is complex, and fixed and balusters typical of the time on the sides. The exterior decoration is completed, sides with handles arched central lentil and long cut hinges profile also very typical of this model. The heads of the nails are on the front take the form of scallops worked in relief, some new current in this kind of writing desks. It stands on one foot vintage type bridge, made of wood carved and ebonised. Keep an architectural structure with side pads and three feet on each side, the central column-shaped helical shaft and the other two in the form of turned column and fluted shafts combines sleek bodies. Both side supports are joined by a central arches richly decorated with carvings worked in various levels of relief, combining geometric and floral elements. Salamanca This type of desktop is typically Spanish, and is characterized by the wealth of the interior shows, with a decoration based on columns, turned and gold, as we see here. As usual in this model is that the present sample drawers with fronts following different models, which are mixed as evidence this bargueño. The exhibition is organized into three registers, as usual, although the central chapel that usually appears is replaced by different drawers. The lower register hosts a large central drawer and four smaller side. The center is decorated with a scheme of three serlianas (segmental arch flanked by two smaller arches point), typical Spanish furniture not only in the Baroque period, but also in the mannerism. As usual in the Salamanca desks, columns are made of turning bone and under the serlianas see applications bone plates forming geometric patterns. This own architectural columns desktop scheme is repeated in the upper register, but with variations in design. In the middle register the serlianas remain in the center drawer, while on the sides (the two ends with separate lock) auctions are curved or arched pediments lowered. Finally, the third record, narrower than the other two, is occupied by four drawers, in this case with a symmetrical geometric and simple, like the one we see on the side of the lower register drawer design. The drawer handles all take the form of scallops, with matching nail heads outside. While this model of desktop columns exists from the time of Philip III, early this century, in this model we see many features that indicate a later date, a separate mature model of mid-century. Thus, the columns remain combine smooth shaft and helical fluted, and distinctly baroque, and compartmentalization front side drawers is still simple, but the profusion of gold and high and thoroughness of the stature, like the fact that combine embedded bone are features of more mature baroque decorativeness own.
