19th Century French Early Mercantile Industrial General Store Counter
About the Item
A rare, one-of-a-kind French industrial 19th century general store counter.
Finished on all sides, today this most distinctive work of art would make for an impressive kitchen island, boutique retail shop counter, home media console or dry bar, credenza or sideboard server - buffet!
Born in France in the early 1800s, likely Parisian work, featuring the original trompe-l'œil faux marble and graining hand painted finish.
Featuring rustic hand-crafted solid wood construction, having a later antique rectangular galvanized metal workbench top with desirable overhang, riveted edge, and tip slot that falls into the small drawer below. A large dovetailed drawer above double cupboard door enfilde with single shelf provides generous storage options.
The cabinet side presents in a heavily weathered white washed paint finish, while the opposing side and flanks display the stunning original paint layers, detailed faux graining, yellow painted pine panels with delicate fiolate scroll hand painted accents, and rouge marbleized paint decorated molding with striking white veining.

A superb example of functional art and a wonderful way to add refined elegance, cozy rustic warmth, sophisticated antique character with rich artistic and historical depth.
Good antique condition. Presents splendidly with beautifully aged patina over the whole. Overall well preserved, retaining original antique character marks throughout, including heavily worn, distressed patina, chippy paint losses, and expected wear consistent with over 200 years of age and use. The locks are not functional.
