About the Item
A stunning antique late 1800s Japanese Kansai style cedar merchant chest / tansu with multiple compartments, doors, and drawers. Chests like these held documents, abacus and money, as well as tea ware. All of the iron hardware and decorative lockplates are original. An exceptional versatile and functional piece. Doors and drawers slide beautifully.
Condition commensurate with age and use. Small imperfections in the wood. No keys to the locks. Due to slight shrinkage in the wood the drawers protrude from the cabinet ever so slightly.
