About the Item

Gio Ponti Rationalist Cabinet, wood, Italy, 1940. This office cabinet, designed by Gio Ponti in the 1940s, is crafted through a meticulous study of the play of light. It balances exposed and covered shelving to create dynamic contrasts and harmonious integration with various environments. The cabinet features a combination of materials and finishes, showcasing Ponti's mastery of woodwork. The lower section includes four drawers with fine rounded slatted fronts, stained with aniline dye, and finished with round recessed knobs. The middle section has five doors, three in wood and two in glass, concealing symmetrical shelves. The top section offers open shelving, ideal for displaying decorative items. The plinth base provides a smooth, stable foundation. This piece of furniture features circular influences and a blend of architectural elements in the style of great masterpieces. The piece reflects Ponti's philosophy of integrating light, texture, and form into a cohesive design. This creation embodies the influences from collaborations with renowned engineers and architects such as Luiz Contrucci, Arturo Belloni, Gianfranco Frattini, Giancarlo Pozzi, Fornaroli, Rosselli, and Gigi Gho. It draws inspiration from major public and private works throughout Italy. Our atelier offers custom restoration and special reupholstering on request. Contact us to create the object you desire.
