18th Century Austrian Louis XVI Walnut Commode / Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Commode hand-crafted in Austria or northern Italy in the late 1700s using walnut. The commode has very straight lines and features three inset drawers, all with hand-made dovetail joints and beautifully decorated drawer fronts. The drawers all work well and can be used on a daily basis. Each is decorated on the front with symmetrical geometrical inlay in walnut, and by placing the walnut in different orientations the maker was able to create a beautiful pattern with different tones. The sides are made of book-matched panels framed by cross-banded veneer and square molding. The chest of drawers still sits on its original tapered legs. This is a beautiful commode with a gorgeous color and patina. Its simple lines make it perfect for a home with both modern and antique furniture. It can be used on a daily basis by providing plenty of storage space as well as beautiful decoration.
