18th Century Tuscan Walnut Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Chest of drawers (Canterano) hand-made in the Tuscany region of Italy in the early 1700s using walnut. The chest of drawers features three very large inset drawers with beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated by symmetrical molding, making it look like there are six drawers instead of only three. The hardware is not original to the piece but fits the style perfectly. The sides are made of chamfered inset panels framed by molding. The top is made of a single large board with ogee edges. Throughout the case the chest is lightly decorated by thin molding. This is another gorgeous old italian canterano with gorgeous patina and beautiful lines: simple, yet with a lot of depth and character. The drawers are extremely heavy, but it can be used on a daily basis. It will work great as clothes storage in a room, but also in an entryway or office.
