19th Century Louis Philippe Semainier High Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Elegant Louis Philippe high chest of drawers, so-called "semainier", from the 19th century. Solid mahogany and veneered on oak. A "semainier" was traditionally used to store laundry for one day in each of the 7 drawers. High rectangular seven-drawer corpus on 4 feet with rounded edges and slightly overhanging top plate of white marble. While the lower 6 drawers can be opened and closed with a key each in embedded brass key sockets, the hidden head drawer sans traverse can be opened with recessed grips on the underside of the panel. Dimensions: 144 cm high / 56.69 inch high, 105 cm wide / 41.33 inch wide, 54 cm deep / 21.25 inch deep. Authentic restored condition. Among other things, the following restoration work has been done: The running function of all drawers has been restored; new historical keys have been added; the corpus has been partially re-glued; cracks in the sides of the corpus have been filled or re-glued; smaller loosened wooden elements have been added and glued on; the feet have been re-glued; the surface has been cleaned and polished with shellac.
