About the Item

Chest of drawers. Carved wood. 16th century. Restorations. Chest of drawers with a carved wooden front in its own color, featuring two drawers with metal handles and lock escutcheons above two doors with handles and locks similar to the previous ones, and a carved top. The figurative elements (busts of men and female figures) appear within plain tondos, with simple geometric elements overlooking the rectangular areas in which they are located. The sides have simpler carvings based on plain moldings, and the lower part features wave-like work. These types of figurative busts are very common in the European Renaissance (compare, for example, the Plateresque carvings by Calderón, created in 1524 in the choir of Sigüenza Cathedral, with 16th-century Portuguese desks, the sides of the Azay-le-Rideau chest or trunk in the Louvre Museum in Paris, etc.), with the elements surrounding these busts typically varying within tondos. The shape of the piece of furniture is also striking, being unusual in the Spanish school of the period. · Size: 150x60,5x161 cm International Buyers – Please Note: for those articles that need Export Permits (those older than 100 years), the obtaining of the Permit will be processed without additional expenses (if you choose the seller sends it to you), but the period for the obtention of it may vary from 10 to 35 days.

Locker Walnut wood, wrought iron. Spain, 17th century. Rectangular low furniture made of oak with elements in wrought iron that rises slightly on four legs, has a slightly protruding straight top board and fronts decorated with carvings, and has two doors under two drawers, all with key lock (shields of lock decorated with simple lines only on the doors). When opening the doors, there is access to a space divided in two by a shelf decorated with a series of cut lines on its lower edge). In the upper part, under the board, there are carved brackets with simple scrolls, tongues and architectural elements; on the sides of the front some grooves remember architectural motifs. The exterior of doors and drawers and the sides of the furniture have a decoration based on frames of different sizes and shapes (crosses, squares, rectangular), following a tradition deeply rooted in Spanish furniture and that allows you to compare the ticket office...
