Early 19th Century Splendidly Decorated German Neoclassical Commode

About the Item

Early 19th Century Splendidly decorated German neoclassical commode with fine mahogany veneer, white alabaster columns and gilded bronzes. Very rare Berlin Empire commode; this kind of furniture with alabaster columns was made only in Berlin and St. Petersburg during a short period of time around 1800 due to the intense commercial trade between these two cities. An interesting fact is that most of the cabinet makers in the Romanov's court were German, mostly from Berlin. The piece remains in a very excellent condition, the column on the right side keeps an horizontal mark from a former restoration, probably in the 20th century or even earlier as it's quite old. It is an exquisite and extremely rare piece, a wonder for collectors or antiques lovers.
