Exceptional 18th Century English Chinoiserie Two Part Oak Highboy

About the Item

An exceptional English Chinoiserie or Japanned lacquered two part oak highboy with a molded cornice surmounting an upper case with hidden document drawer over three small fitted drawers over three graduated long drawers, each featuring relief carved Chinese folklore figures and animals, and painted bird decoration on one side, over a lower case with paint decorated waistmolding, three fitted drawers, a nicely shaped skirt with two carved drops, all supported by four cabriole legs terminating with pad feet. The long drawers have been lined with white paper. The highboy would command a presence in any room and dates to the 18th century in very good overall condition, with some waist molding edge restoration, replaced brasses, minor edge losses, and wear commensurate with age and use.
