About the Item
A superior example of 18th century Italian cabinetry, demonstrating fine proportions and materials.
The original hand shaped sienna marble-top set within a gilded gesso molding, overtop a case decorated with inlays of kingwood, mahogany, walnut & satinwood, fitted with two tiers of full width drawers retaining their original fire-gilded pulls & functioning iron locks. The drawer fronts inlaid with romantic & mythological neoclassical motifs accented with inked highlights set against lustrous satinwood panels with kingwood borders & inlaid chevron detail. Raised overall upon four inlaid tapering supports terminating to gilded gesso collared feet. The surface beneath the sienna marble top bears stenciled lettering as illustrated.
