About the Item

An outstanding Meiji period Japanese keyaki wood (elm) tansu of large size with 8 drawers, 3 large 2 medium and 3 small, and 2 cabinets with small interior drawers. The piece has iron mounts of the highest quality. The beautifully figured drawer fronts have a pleasing mellow color. The 2 small cabinet or safe compartments on opposite sides open to reveal a pair of interior small drawerrs. Circa 1860.
