American Hepplewhite Chest of Drawers with Gustavian Grey-White Paint

$4,500

About

A lovely American Hepplewhite chest with bowed front, sculpted apron and tapered square feet offering four drawers of staggered depths with period brass plates and pulls. The oval escutcheon plates are embossed with a flying bald eagle clutching in its beak a banner that reads "E pluribus unum" which translates to "Out of many one." On its talons there is an olive branch with 9 leaves and a bundle of 7 arrows, an imperfect reference to the national coat of arms as depicted in the obverse side of the Great Seal of the United States. Chest was recently painted in our workshop with a Gustavian white-grey paint that has subtle color overtones of putty with a hint of blue/green. Comes with original working locks and (1) key. American, circa 1800. Measurements: 40 3/4 wide x 24 1/2" deep x 36 3/4" high.
