This German neoclassical style painted commode from the mid-19th century features a rectangular top over three beautifully painted drawers. We've been stalking these painted commodes for years and finally took the plunge with this beauty: a pretty mid-1800s commode from Saxony, which has been given a sexy update with an intricate, Italian-inspired painted pattern. The first hand dovetailed drawer is indeed adorned with a Greek Key motif, particularly reminiscent of the neoclassical period, which emphasized the decorative motifs of the antiquity. The second and third drawers share a delicate painted motif of an urn flanked with swags. The chest has been raised on four short tapered legs. This German painted commode would look wonderful in any home, perhaps in a bedroom or living room.
