Located in Vigonza, Padua

Excellent condition. Measures cm: D 53, W 120, H 100. mirror cm: W 90 H 75. About Osvaldo Borsani Osvaldo Borsani (born 1911, Varedo, Italy–died 1985, Milano, Italy) was an Italian designer and architect, born into a family of furniture makers with along and well established artisanal tradition. His father, Gaetano Borsani, owned his own furniture shop, the Atelier di Varedo, where the 16-year-old Osvaldo received his first training. At that time, the designer of the atelier was the architect Gino Maggioni, who brought with him influences of the early 20th century Jugendstil movement from Vienna and who instilled in the young Borsani an appreciation for the arts and crafts and furniture making. Osvaldo Borsani first studied fine arts at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, graduating in 1931, and then pursued studies in architecture at Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in 1936. In 1933, two years before graduating as an architect, Borsani designed the Casa Minima project for the V Triennale di Milano (Milan Triennial), along with architects Cairoli and Varisco. This project earned him a silver medal for its Rationalist code and geometries, and he received positive reviews from the critic Edoardo Persico of Casabella magazine. Villa Borsani And Other Prominent Architectural Work In 1937, Osvaldo Borsani designed Villa Presenti in Forte dei Marmi, a sea town in Tuscany where the Italian aristocracy and industrial elite would build their houses, a project that displayed the same rationalistic rigor displayed in Casa Minima, but softened by the use of mediterranean finishes and materials. Villa Borsani designed by Osvaldo Borsani. Varedo, Italy Villa Borsani. Varedo, Italy In 1943, Osvaldo designed and built his own house, the Villa Borsani, in Varedo, which, despite being conceptualized under strict Rationalist principles, incorporated objects and art of younger artists that communicate a freer approach to the human expression. The Villa Borsani project involved artists such as Adriano Spilimbergo, Fausto Melotti, Lucio Fontana (who made the ceramic fireplace and the ceramic Madonna), and Agenore Fabbri (who made the bronze statue in the staircase). To this day, Villa Borsani has been preserved with most of its original furniture and it remains with Osvaldo Borsani’s family along with the extensive archives of his work. Osvaldo Borsani As a Successful Product and Furniture Designer After Villa Borsani, Osvaldo continued to develop many projects for the Milanese bourgeoisie, frequently with many of the same artists whom he employed for his villa. A particularly strong relationship was the one that Osvaldo developed with artist Lucio Fontana, a close friend since the time of the Accademia de Belle Arti di Brera, and whom Borsani assigned to make a large metal balcony for the Tecno company in 1956. Osvaldo Borsani’s design work, just as his larger architectural projects, which he also considered design work, very often incorporated elements created by other artists and designers such as: Roberto Crippa, Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, Agenore Fabbri, Fausto Melotti, Andrea Cascella...

Pair of neoclassical Italian chests of drawers in inlaid wood, XVIII century
Located in Vicenza, IT
This exceptional pair of Italian neoclassical 18th century dressers in wood richly inlaid on the front, sides and 4 truncated pyramid legs are top-quality example of Italian 18th century cabinetmaking. The pair of commodes are originals from the second part of the 18th century (1780). The front of the pair of commodes is divided into three levels of drawers, two thinner ones at the top and bottom and a thicker central one. This arrangement makes the front of the pair of drawers even more elegant. On the front of the central drawer stands a large oval with two mirror-image neoclassical figures represented. Rich and complex foliate motifs start from the oval and extend gracefully across the entire surface. Corresponding to the upper and lower drawers, both frontally and laterally, runs a band with inlays depicting classical style garlands with ribbons, cameos and phytomorphic elements. On the side, inside geometric figures created through the combination of various wood essences there are other garlands and recurring elements in the inlays of the neoclassical period. The pillars are also inlaid with floral and leaf decorations. The four truncated pyramid legs are also inlaid. These eighteenth-century Italian chests of drawers were exhibited at the Triennale Museum in Milan on the occasion of the exhibition "Il Salone, la città", which took place in conjunction with the "Salone del Mobile" in Milan. We have all the documentation attesting to this museum exhibition. The dressers are entirely inlaid with the use of different wood essences. The inlaid surfaces have also been pyrographed and burnished and are in excellent condition. This very refined technique allows you to create greater definition of the decorations, giving three-dimensionality and chiaroscuro to the drawings. With a dark background, the elegant inlays create neoclassical designs inspired by the taste of the time and the famous furniture of the Lombard cabinetmaker Giuseppe Maggiolini di Parabiago, who brought the inlay technique applied to neoclassical furniture to the highest levels. The marble top is contemporary. The handles and mouthpieces of the locks, also original, are in gilded bronze. The neoclassical furniture of the eighteenth century The last quarter of the eighteenth century coincides with the affirmation of the neoclassical taste, in opposition to the previous rococo or baroque style, particularly widespread and appreciated in Lombardy. An echo of this transition is visible in Maggiolini's first works, namely rounded chests...

18th Century Italian Marquetry Chest Of Drawers Museum Quality, Milan ca. 1760
Located in Lichtenberg, AT
An absolute masterpiece of mid 18th century Italian craftsmanship is this unbelievable artfully crafted marquetry chest of drawers out of Milan. Made around 1760 with highest attention to details, this one of a kind museum-quality commode is not only a precious item of antique furniture, much more it is a real smart investment. The very time-consuming restoration of this masterpiece took us more than 9 weeks and has been done by our most experienced master of restoration. The ultimate goal was it to restore it the old way to keep the unbelievable charme of this valuable 18th century dresser. With an age of more than 260 years, this remarkable rare chest of drawers comes with an elegant shaped body made of spruce and poplar, elaborately set nutwood/ cherry veneer and incredible marquetry works all over this unique italian commode. Providing two large drawers, this outstanding 18th century dresser is adorned by fantastic looking, inlayed depicitions of women surrounded by extensively designed round frames made of maple, nut and plum wood. The largest depiction on the front even runs over both drawers. The top plate is an absolute highlight, impressing with this amazing worked 3D-effect frame made of fine ebony, maple and plum wood which looks like a spiral. The same design has also been used on the front of this precious chest of drawers. The second frame with a slight green shine has been additionally surrounded by thin maple threads. Other exceptional 3D effect maple inlays in form of chain links can be found on both sides of the front pilasters. This exceptional "chain" effect is reinforced by so-called "Schwarlot" paintings - a technique which confers it this special depth. An incredibly crafted, one of a kind 18th century Italian chest of drawers...
