Swedish Blonde Wood Corner Cupboard Painted With Flowers
About the Item
A charming and beautifully decorated petite light golden wood two piece corner cupboard with two cabinets and two drawers, working locks with a key. Decoration includes punchwork patterns enhanced with contrasting dark brown coloring along with small fairytale illustration-like scenes in vivd full color, of children at play amidst graceful and comparatively oversized fantastical plant forms with pansy blossoms, Virginia creeper leaves and clusters of berries. dancing around the Maypole, playing piano, children, seated high up in tree branches reading, making a snow man, fishing, playing with a little dog, all beautifully rendered. Engraved text surrounds the panels, some referring to the scenes, other phrases translating roughly as “The Rose of love only wants to give you faith.” “You know my concern for you should never be a thorn.” “Cheerfulness is power. And love is the star of the poem.” “Time is a short dream, then it’s gone.” Probably ca. 1900. Very good condition, some light wear, light scuffs to the surface. Painting in very good condition.
