Martin Visser
Martin Visser was a Dutch furniture-designer and art-collector. Visser started designing at a young age, but most of all he was an art collector. His collection contains works of a cobra, Anselm Kiefer and Keith Haring. His focus was on young and promising artists. The Kröller-Müller museum accommodates over 400 works of Vissers art-collection. Vissers's career as a designer started at department store De Bijenkorf. From 1955, he became head of production and design of ’t Spectrum. For this company, Visser designed numerous items, including the table.
Established in 2006, Morentz has a team of approximately 55 restorers, upholsterers, interior advisers and art historians, making it a gallery, workshop and upholstery studio, all in one. Every day, a carefully selected array of 20th-century furniture arrives from all over the world at the firm’s warehouse, where the team thoroughly examines each piece to determine what, if any, work needs to be done. Whether that means new upholstery or a complete restoration, Morentz's aim is always to honor the designer’s intention while fulfilling the wishes of the client. The team is up to any challenge, from restoring a single piece to its original glory to furnishing a large-scale hotel project.

- Very Rare Mid-Century Modern Sideboard / Credenza by 't Woonhuys of AmsterdamBy 't WoonhuysLocated in Lisse, NLRare Mid-Century Modern, oak and cherry wood, six doors and three drawers cabinet. This rare credenza / sideboard by one of Holland's finest furniture makers of the early 1900s could very well be one of the first Midcentury Modern pieces that was hand-crafted here in the Netherlands. 't Woonhuys in Amsterdam was one of the best furniture makers and in the earliest years of its existance it even employed absolute top designers such as Michel de Klerk and Hildo Krop. Later also various known architects designed pieces for this, ahead of its time, furniture maker. Little is known about how and when exactly the company seized to exist, but certainly no material can be found on them after 1960. The second world war had left almost everyone out of money and there simply was no clientele left in Holland who could afford the quality pieces that 't Woonhuys was putting out. World war II basically ended almost all the Dutch, top quality furniture makers and it is a minor miracle that 't Woonhuys even lasted until 1960. This extremely rare and stylish midcentury cabinet is the first one that we have ever seen by this famous Dutch furniture maker. The combination of the stained oak exterior, the sleek and timeless lines in the design and the cherry-wood interior makes this 'tall credenza' stand out from anything we ever saw. Just like you, we too are used to seeing cabinets from this era in much lighter colors (most were made of beech and types of teakwood) and that too is what immediately made us want to buy this rare and striking piece. All six doors still open and close perfectly and they all come with perfect working, quality brass locks and replacement keys...Category
