About the Item

Handmade in America by the venerable Tomlinson Furniture Company, this burled walnut console/credenza/bookcase was designed originally for limited production. Today, it is a rare heirloom find. Overall, the piece has a warm rich luster and gracious proportions, unusually long at 80". It is beautifully built, with all three exposed sides (surface, front, and sides) covered in a burled walnut veneer that is skillfully applied. The piece is meant to be placed against a wall or sofa, as the backside is unfinished. The two flanking cabinet doors with antique brass lion-head handles open to reveal vertical storage spaces, and are also designed to hold one or more optional shelves, which are not included. The console centerpiece is accessed by library-style brass grate doors that open like an accordian to expose two shelves for books, etc. This credenza is a multi-functional statement piece -- working well in an entry hall or library, as a wonderfully spacious bar, media console, or even as extra seating when entertaining. It could be found as easily in a Parisian pied-a-terre as in a preppy-chic town house stateside. It’s in excellent condition. The Tomlinson Furniture Company of High Point, dates to 1901, and was known by the discerning American buyer of the times for its quality reproductions of 19th century European furniture. The company maintains a strong presence and brand in High Point today.
