Jim Rose Two-Door Chinese Coins Quilt Cupboard, Functional Art Steel Furniture
By Jim Rose
Located in Chicago, IL
This is a totally functional two door cupboard. It is created from natural rusted steel and found steel. The panels on the door fronts and sides are made from salvaged pieces of steel with the original paint and texture making this modern industrial aesthetic a model of sustainable design. Prominent colors in this piece are earthy tones of beige, green and blue with a pop of yellow. There is one fixed shelf inside the cabinet. This piece is available as pictured. Jim Rose Two Door Chinese Coin Quilt Cupboard hot roll and found painted steel 38.25h x 53.88w x 21d in 97.16h x 136.84w x 53.34d cm JR0249 Jim Rose 1966 - 2023 Bio: Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. Ritual Cabinet by Jude Di Leo
Located in Geneve, CH
Ritual cabinet by Jude Di Leo Dimensions: W 102 x D 51 x H 183 cm Materials: Ink dyed Hemlock, Blackened Steel & Bronze Mirror Ritual Cabinet is an exploration in contrast. Utilizing humble materials and high aesthetics it presents a dichotomy of rough and refined. Designed during the American coronavirus shutdown of 2020, material supplies dried up, human interaction became extremely limited, and the world filled with a sense of uncertainty. It was a time to reflect and recalibrate. Spending many mornings in meditation, going inward to move beyond fear and welcome in growth became a mantra. The concept came to use the basic construction materails available and treat them as precious. Primarily composed of Hemlock, tradionally used as framing material, the cabinet opens to an Oak interior, blackened steel details, and a bronze mirror at the back, giving both the sense of retreat and reflection. There is also a drawer below. The materials are unified with a coating of black ink, leaving only the texture of the materials visible. Jude Heslin Di Leo...
