About the Item

This exceptional Art Nouveau "Aux algues" office suite crafted by Louis Majorelle showcases his remarkable talent and presents a rare opportunity for collectors. The suite, which includes a study cabinet, sideboard, table, and chair, revolves around the Algues motif, inspired by the brown algae of Brittany. This motif, historically linked to the work of "goemoniers" who harvested seaweed for various purposes, was a favored subject among Realism painters depicting Brittany's labor and religious customs. The study cabinet features a design incorporating end match veneer panels and a backboard, along with five sections of shelving behind glass doors, each adorned with striking mauve-colored ripple glass panels. The table boasts exquisite detailing with a finely tooled leather cover adorned with scarabs and fuchsia flowers. Additionally, the sideboard is crowned with a magnificent slab of nero portoro marble, an esteemed Italian black marble with roots tracing back to the Roman Empire. This suite exemplifies Majorelle's mastery and offers a multifaceted glimpse into his creative brilliance.
