About the Item

William and Mary walnut slant front desk with herringbone inlays and cross banding on the top desk surface, the desk lid, and the interior and exterior drawer fronts. The desk lid also has a double molded edge and the double molded edge is repeated along the sides of the front case. The desk comprised of burl walnut and walnut veneers, inlay over pine and oak secondary wood. The desk interior has a central door flanked by columnar document boxes and a pigeonhole arrangement over two drawers. The case drawer arrangement consists of one long narrow drawer above a wait molding over two smaller side by side drawers over two graduated long drawers all above a base molding and supported on bun feet. The desk with replaced eighteenth century Chippendale brasses and keys. Dimensions: 39" W, 21 1/2" D, 39 3/4" H, opens to 23" D and writing height 29". Condition: The piece has been conserved to insure proper usability and has had maintenance restoration to the veneers. The feet have been replaced along with the brasses with are 18th century Chippendale brasses. No original finish but has a soft mellow patina. Presents well with some splits to veneer and chips with losses to the wooden trim above the pair of drawers. Wear commensurate with age and gentle handling and display.
