18th Century English Mahogany Secretary
About the Item
18th century English mahogany Secretary, with the frieze having blind fretwork. The cornice has dental molding and wall of Troy molding. The doors have stylized scallop shell quarter panels flanked by fluted quarter columns with high Corinthian capitals supporting blind fretwork panels on the top and base. The fall board has double book matched crotch mahogany panels crossbanded with flame grained mahogany. The interior has fifteen drawers with blind fretwork, Gothic arch drawers above, and eight cubby holes. Blind fretwork (secret drawers) flank the prospect door in the center. The hardware is original. The base has matching fluted quarter columns with ormolu capitals and bases terminating in blind fretwork panels with acanthus carved ogee feet.
