19th Century Empire Walnut Secretary

About the Item

French first Empire period Secretaire à Abattant, also known as a drop-front secretary, fall front or cantilevered desk. Under the dark grey marble top is a secret, entablature drawer. A cantilevered fall front opens to reveal several drawers, a column theatre and a writing surface. Secret compartments are hidden behind the columns and drawers. The base of the cabinet features two doors and shelf. The piece is flanked by columns adorned with finely cast bases and etched bronze capitals.
