English 19th Century Black and Gold Secretary Bookcase with Chinoiserie Décor

An English black lacquer secretary bookcase from the 19th century, with glass doors, drop-front desk and gold Chinoiserie décor. Created in England during the 19th century, this secretary bookcase draws our immediate attention with its black lacquered ground highlighting the linear silhouette beautifully. This two-part piece showcases an upper, more narrow cabinet, presenting a cornice overhanging two glass doors. These doors open to reveal inner shelves offering convenient storage for books. The lower section, larger in depth, is made of a drop-front desk at the top opening to open compartments with scalloped accents, surrounded by petite drawers, the writing area being fitted with a green leather inset. The bottom part is made of two doors, adorned with an exquisite gilded Chinoiserie décor, made of male figures standing in a landscape, a building and tree in the background. Fishing or simply standing in front of a parapet, they are relaxing in a beautiful scenery. The sides are no less exquisite, while the back is unfinished.
