Federal Style Diminutive Two Part Inlaid Mahogany Bookcase Secretary

About the Item

A wonderful diminutive size Federal style two part inlaid figured mahogany bookcase, its upper case with a shaped crest with three urn finials surmounting two bow front glass paneled doors, opening to two adjustable shelves, over two tambour doors which open to a compartmentalized interior with fitted drawers, valanced cubbies, and a central prospect door opening to two additional cubbies and a single drawer. The lower case features a crotched mahogany veneered hinged writing surface which folds open to a felted interior, over three drawers with crossbanded veneers and oval eagle brasses, all supported by four inlaid square tapered legs. This bookcase / secretary desk dates to the late 19th century and is in very good overall condition, with restorations, minor losses and imperfections, and light wear commensurate with age and use.     Repaired: minor veneer restorations and other repairs. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Very good overall condition, with some surface restorations, minor imperfections, and light wear commensurate with age and use. Tambour doors work, but need to be handled with care. Replaced finials. Repairs to glazing.
