English Georgian Two Part Mahogany Secretary circa 1780

About the Item

A two part English Georgian secretary, its upper case featuring a cornice with dentil and fluted molding, accented with three satinwood oval paterae, surmounting two glass doors, opening to three interior bookcase shelves, over a lower case with slant lid, opening to a writing surface and compartmentalized interior with center prospect door with four interior drawers, flanked by two open cubbies and banks of fitted drawers, over four graduated long drawers with what appear to be original hardware, all supported by four bracket feet. Dates to circa 1780 in very good overall condition, with minor restorations, surface restoration, some minor glass imperfections, minor losses and wear commensurate with age and use. The fitted drawers have been lined with red felt. Dimensions: 89.5 in H x 43 in W x 24 in D.

    Repaired: Old hinge and molding repairs. Refinished. Additions or alterations made to the original: Newer felt drawer liners added to the interior fitted drawers. Some new support screws have been added to attach the top and bottom case. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Very good overall condition, with minor restorations, surface restoration, some minor glass imperfections, minor losses and wear commensurate with age and use. Does not lock well. Molding dividing glazed doors with some old repairs and glue.
