Late 18th C. Dutch Richly Inlaid Two Part Walnut and Satinwod Fall Front Bureau
About the Item
This late Baroque Dutch two part book matched walnut bureau features an upper part with a slanted drop front opening up to an interior fitted with a leather linined writing surface and a shaped frontage having multiple small drawers, compartments and a center compartment door flanked by two 'secret' compartments. Under the fall front we find a long drawer flanked by two smaller drawers which also serve as supports for the downfolded writing surface. The lower part is protruding with three long drawers, the upper one with convave front, and accented angled corners, a Dutch tradition. Resting on four carved feet this bureau or secretaire has unique sculptural qualities complimented by exuberant inlays of satinwood, boxwood and ebony.
