Set of two Arch modular bentwood solid oak shelving units by Note Studio

About the Item

A set of 2 large Arch modular bentwood shelving units and room dividers designed by Note in solid black oak for the high end Swedish furniture brand, Fogia. Designed by Note designers for Fogia, the modular Arch shelving system reference’s many classic lines and shapes to create a simple but elegant storage system. Characterised by the straight lines offset by half-moon shaped detail, it casts striking shadows across the walls when lit by sunshine or lamp light. Made with everyday living in mind, Arch is an easily expandable solution for wall-mounted or freestanding shelving in the home, office and beyond. Amongst its many configurations it can be used as a freestanding room divider or as a long, low display system – as shown in the accompanying pictures. It’s a very functional and practical storage solution that looks very simple but when the units are combined together they create a wonderful presence that is both strong and elegant at the same time. Each unit is handmade and built from solid, black stained oak and comes in a range of other sizes and colour options. This version is the largest double Arch and currently retails at over £1,800 per piece. It’s difficult to gauge size from photos, but as a reference point each unit stands at 78cm tall, which is slightly higher than the average dining table. They can either simply free stand on the floor, be stacked (subject to taking care regarding overall height of course), or wall mounted via the solid brass fixing holes inset into the back of each frame. They are in very good condition with only slight signs of use that represent as light marks to the top and bottom of each unit from stacking – which in any event could ever be seen if floor standing as a single block. Each unit also benefits from the original Fogia branding plaque fixed at the back as shown in the photos. This item is sold as a set of 2 units but can also be purchased as a discounted set of 4 units via one of my other listings on this site too.

  • Hans J. Wegner Danish 1940s Leather and Oak Model A721 Executive Chair
    By Hans J. Wegner
    Located in Highclere, Newbury
An exceedingly rare Hans J. Wegner Model A721 cognac leather and oak early Danish Mid-century executive chair for Planmøbel, Denmark 1940. Originally designed by Wegner following his work for Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller’s ground breaking Rådhus (Aarhus City Hall) project in 1940, the A721, stands out as one of his earliest known chair designs. Along with a number of other chairs like the B123, the Rådhus chairs were handcrafted by Michael Laursen, I.C.A Nielsen and Planmøbel specifically for the project. Originally made in small numbers all the chairs were of uniform construction with solid oak frames matched to leather upholstery and with thick, solid jointing work that complemented the angular forms. Here we also see for the first time, Wegner’s use of the flared arm rest that were a signature design element for every armchair produced for the Rådhus. These flares were either carved into the wood (as in the Council chamber chairs...

  • 4 vintage Eero Saarininen Knoll Inc. Executive armchairs with an oak frame base
    By Knoll, Eero Saarinen
    Located in Highclere, Newbury
A classic set of 4 vintage Eero Saarininen Knoll Inc. executive armchairs in the original Knoll blue fabric with an oak frame base. The Eero Saarinen Executive armchair was featured in nearly every Florence Knoll Mid Century interior throughout the 1950s and beyond. Originally introduced in 1950, the chair transformed the notion of what executive seating could be with its fluid, sculptural form and modern finishing. The timeless and versatile design continues to fit seamlessly into work, conference, lounge and dining applications of any décor. The chair remains as one of the most popular Knoll designs ever with new versions of the armchair, as shown here, in fabric with the wooden light oak base retailing at around £2,000 per chair. And it’s the wooden legs that add to their appeal and was ultimately a big improvement on the original tubular steel frame. They are just warmer and more welcoming, as well as being more aesthetically pleasing. As such the chairs are more often used these days as dining chairs rather than in the office. The chairs are also supremely comfortable and are upholstered in a classic Knoll wool fabric that has different subtle colour flecks within the fabric and that also features a slightly darker colour in the seat. This is an intentional design aesthetic as it helps to maintain the condition and look of the seat with heavier use. They date from the 1990s and remain in very good vintage condition with only light signs of use. This item is sold as a set of 4 chairs but the chairs are also available as a complete dining set matched with a Florence Knoll Walnut table...
