Jorge Zalszupin Componivel Sideboard 185 L'atelier, 1959

About the Item

Very nice small sized and sophisticated sideboard from the componivel series designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own company L'Atelier, Brazil 1959. Modular furniture by Jorge is instantly recognizable, as he was the first one to come up with such a constructivist way of creating furniture. From the start of L’Atelier, large numbers of variations were created, but were made with the same principles and distinctive features. Each cabinet, regardless its size, had a number of patchwork Jacaranda rosewood veneered cabinets that were secured onto a bottom and top plate, and thus seem to be wedged in which gave a very minimalist feel. Most sideboards were made in patchwork veneer such as this one, which gives the piece a very sculptural, artistic feel. Hinges are recessed into the cabinet doors, and the signature handles were drilled out, and veneered. This specific small sideboard has solid square wooden feet. This sideboard is fully refinished, but we kept the original look and patina is still visible. This unusual cabinet has a very nice open part on the left with a beautiful bent part which makes the piece more special and a-symmetrical. On the right there is a closed cabinet with 1 folding door. The sideboard is finished all around and can be placed in the middle to use as a room divider as well. Have a look at the 360* video tour from the Jorge Zalszupin exhibition >   Video tour Fully refinished in our own atelier with high quality UV protection lacquer with preservation of authenticity. Also, completely structural checked and ready to use.

  • Jorge Zalszupin Unique Sideboard L'atelier, 1960
    By Jorge Zalszupin
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Stunning and unique made sideboard designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own comany L'Atelier, Brazil 1960. This is a unique sideboard designed especially for a customer’s holiday home in Biarritz, France 1960. This sideboard is comparable to the modular system designed by Zalszupin in 1959. The difference is that this sideboard has much more elegant round legs on the corners and doors and is partly covered with leather. This was also seen at the modular system sometimes at the doors or panels. It has 3 drawers in the middle and on the left and right of that there are the leather covered folding doors. The sideboard is in fully original condition and the leather has a nice patina from age and usage. This comes from an interior with several pieces by Zalszupin which were imported from Brazil in the early 1960s. All the features this sideboard shows were also used by Zalszupin in other designs, the leather handles in his desks, the legs with the Jockey chairs...

    By Jorge Zalszupin

This stunning trolley is probably the most iconic piece designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured in his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. The Carrinho de Chá or tea trolley originates from 1959 and is considered a timeless classic amongst collectors. The cart can be moved around freely and is built from various materials: a solid iron frame black painted, supports a large origami like bottom shelf. Another shelf sculpted out of solid jacaranda rosewood is placed on top and serves as a removable serving tray which can be used both sides. Two rather large but open brass wheels are placed at the bottom and are a great distinctive feature as the solid brass draws...
