Late 18th C. English Inlaid Mahogany Hepplewhite Style Shaped Front Sideboard

About the Item

A wonderful, rare period Geo. III late 18th/early 19th century inlaid mahogany sideboard with its original tambour ribbed, sliding cupboard. It has a central drawer flanked by two deep, cellarette drawers. The brasses are antique and quite fine, but these is a shadow of what may have been oval brasses at one time. (It was very typical and patriotic for the British to remove their brasses on their furniture to be used for artillery during war times. They would then get a local cabinetmaker to install round, wooden knobs and after the war peiod, they would replace the wooden knobs with fine brasses once again.) This is not unusual and is typical of fine, Georgian pieces. There is some minor boxwood inlay msising and a few bits of veneer lost due to minor shrinkage of the understructure. Otherwise, this is a gorgeous sideboard with a lovely patina, especially on top where it has a gorgeous honey-colored, sun-faded patina. It is structurally very sound and in great, age-appropriate condition.
