About the Item

SATURDAY SALE Pair of architectural vitrines designed by Alan Meadoff and produced in Italy in 1990 by Nuova Modernindustria for the Giorgio Collection. African walnut book matched grain veneers on clean line cabinets with tempered glass double doors, sidelights and shelves (with plate groove). The peaked pediment is a modern riff on the Palladian with the circular oculus only half in the tympanum while the lower half of the circle splits the cornice, like the sun setting below the horizon. The glass doors have curved cutout corners to follow the circle. Illuminated from light within ceiling. Two height adjustable glass shelves. Bronzed fittings. Double door lower cabinet opens to reveal a pull-out drawer and cupboard space horizontally divided by a single removable and height adjustable shelf. Brand mark in each drawer. Four leveling brass feet. Finished on backside. Electric cord on roof for internal spotlight. Alan Meadoff (aka Giorgio) was an incredibly talented and innovative designer of contemporary, luxury home furnishings. He manufactured his collections outside of Milan, Italy with a showroom in High Point, North Carolina. He was an independent entrepreneur in a sea of big money, global brands that manufacture mass merchandise at accessible price points. Giorgio was anything but mass market. He had a slogan, “There are those who buy furniture for their homes. Then there are those who buy homes for their furniture.” Yes, his customers were in the latter group. Giorgio’s design aesthetic was sophisticated, elegant, edgy and exotic. He created a collection with the legendary Vladimir Kagan. He truly was a master down to the most intricate details.
