Antique and Quality Hand Carved Solid Oak Gothic Church Wall Bracket or Shelf
Located in Lisse, NL
Great looking and deeply carved Gothic Revival bracket for displaying a Saint statue.
This Gothic console for wall mounting dates from the late 1800s and it has a marvelous combination of floral Gothic elements that make it a joy to own, to use and to look at. All handcrafted more than 100 years ago and always well taken care of, this Gothic Revival wall bracket has the most wonderful shape and a striking patina. This organic design with its natural, flowing lines of the deeply carved Gothic leaves also give it an almost circular look and feel.
This rare church relic was once connected to a church column where it would undoubtedly have been the base for a marvelous Saint statue. If you look closely at the image of the backside, you will be able to see that the rounded part has been professionally flattened out so that it now can be used against a (flat) wall. Apart from a few minor imperfections this Gothic antique of approximately one hundred and fifty years old could not be in better condition. Thanks to the thick wooden opening in the back, mounting this antique bracket...

A Fine Early 20th Century 152 Piece Austrian Flatware Set by Berndorf Alpacca
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Fine Early 20th Century 152 Piece Austrian Dinnerware Flatware Set by Berndorfer Metallwaaren-Fabrik, stamped 'Berndorf Alpacca', The Neoclassical Revival style set of Alpacca flatware comprising of:
12 Fish knives
12 Salad forks
12 Salad knives
12 Pasta spoons
12 Dessert spoons
12 Coffee spoons
12 Tea spoons
12 Ice-cream spoons
1 Ice thong
1 Soup ladle
1 Serving spoon
1 Salad spoon
1 Sauce/Gravy ladle
1 Meat carving knife
1 Meat carving fork
1 Salad fork
All inside its original lined wooden storage-traveling cabinet. (See all images). Circa: Vienna, 1900-1930.
The Alpacca alloy was developed in 1823 by the German chemist Dr. Ernst August Geitner (1783-1852). It was very similar in its appearance to silver, therefore, this new alloy was first called "Argentan". It consisted of 20% nickel, 55% copper and 25% zinc. The new silver-imitating alloy soon became very popular. The Gebrueder Henninger (Henninger Bros.) proposed a similar alloy (5-30% nickel, 45-70% copper and 8-45% zinc with trace amounts of lead, tin and iron) which they called "Neusilber". Later both Argentan and Neusilber were used under the trade name of Alpacca (or Alpakka). The great advantage of the use of Alpacca alloy as the base metal for silver plating is that the appearance of the objects does not change significantly with the wearing away of the silver layer and, unlike sterling silver, it does not require frequent polishing or cleaning due to tarnishing.
The earliest known Berndorf Alpacca mark (No.1) was introduced around 1880 and used until 1891. I found it on the bottom of a 30 cl teapot bearing the inscription KRIEAU, which corresponds to the "Wiener Krieau", the famous race course in Vienna. The mark No.1 represents an oval of 3.0 x 3.6 mm size bearing the lettering "BMF ALPACCA" (which means Berndorfer Metallwaaren Fabrik or Berndorf Metalware Factory) with the "M" and "F" letters being fused. Inside the oval there is a profile of a walking bear looking down. This mark is quite rare.

Gaston Leroux Bronze Figure of Aida on a Sphinx, French, 19th Century
By Gaston Vuevenot Leroux
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Gaston Leroux (French, 1854-1942). A very fine French 19th century polychromed and patinated bronze sculpture of "Aida" resting on a sphinx, her legs crossed and holding a gilt-bronze tambourine, after the model by Gaston Veuvenot Leroux "Aida, A Femme Au Tambourin Assise Sur Une Tete De Sphinx". Signed: Gaston Leroux, Paris, circa 1890.
Measures: Height 29 inches (74 cm).
Width 15 inches (38.1 cm).
Depth 15 inches (38.1 cm).
The opulent and extensively detailed version of Aida was inspired by ethnographic findings of the mid-19th century in ancient Egypt as well as the influences of theatre and costume design. Travelers to the East had often recorded their journeys, either in writing or in pictures, but the movement of Egyptomania was wider-reaching than Egyptology. The immensely popular vogue of Egyptomania is without doubt due to the success of performing arts in recreating this era, in particular, Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. Both the Cairo and Paris premieres created sensations so large that they influenced generations of artists from Alexander Cabanel to Cecil de Mille. In Aida, the ruins of Egypt were brought back to life in full color and scale before the eyes of a generation that would make history as romantics, adventurers and explorers.
The Cairo premier of Aida was entirely conceived by one of the foremost Egyptologists of the day, Auguste Mariette, who was assigned to the project by Khedive Ismail Pasha...

Egyptian Antique Bronze Seated Statue of Harpokrates
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
An interesting and unusual Egyptian bronze seated figure portraying the youthful god Harpokrates (Horus the child). The figure sits unclothed with legs bent and both arms resting by his sides. His face is indistinctly molded with a wide nose and with a sidelock of hair. He wears a Pschent crown. The figure, which is removable, has a later carved and fitted oak throne. The figure has an all over black patina. The figure does have some antique age although may be an Egyptian revival piece and would benefit from further research. We are therefore offering this as a later example and priced accordingly.
Harpokrates was one of the most popular deities in the Egyptian pantheon. He was the offspring...
