Pair of magnificent Victorian walnut card-tables
This Pair of Victorian walnut card-tables are matched. They were made in the same workshops but married together later.
Each table were made circa 1865.
Victorian card-tables of this quality are always hard to source but to find a near pair is incredibly rare.
These would have been made for the home of a highly successful professional or industrialist who was reaping the wealth of their work, therefore would furnish their home with the best on the market. At this time, where Britain ruled 2/3rds of the world, the finest timber, were being used by the cabinetmakers. Fine timber was expensive even then but due to Britain's success the best grades of timber and material was imported. Thus giving the cabinetmakers, the best to work with and use on these special items.
The tables are serpentine shaped with an amboyna banding running around the edge and a decorative inlay to the centre. The tops fold open with the heavy quality hinges, to reveal the baize playing surfaces.
The pair of tables stand on end-supports that are joined by carved pole stretchers.
The ends with a turned walnut column that have a beautifully carved bulbous above the pair of carved walnut cabriole legs with the original porcelain castors under.
