Rhode Island Mahogany Tea Table
About the Item
Many forms of Newport furniture display the use of both grades of mahogany in a single piece (...a highboy with Honduras case and Santo Domingo legs).
In Albert Sack's, "The New Fine Points of Furniture" (image 6), he refers to a similar table as "Superior" (Page 267), though Sack's has a drawer which makes the skirt heavier.
In Sack's Vol. VI another table is pictured (image 7), without a drawer, with a corresponding slimmer skirt (Page 1038). Both tables have a center drop and brackets joining the legs to the straight skirt.
The table pictured here has a center drop and brackets but the skirt between is a double cyma curve (Cupids bow), which we feel is superior.
This form of tea table is quite rare and because of the dense mahogany of the legs and skirt, it's in superb condition, with no loss of height or re-pegging.
