19th Century, French Wood and Gilt Bronze Centre Table

About the Item

19Th Century, French Wood and Gilt Bronze Centre Table Measures: cm L 69 x P 41 x H 73. The legs have a max width of cm 48.5 x P 39 The center table dates back to the early nineteenth century, French manufacture. In wood, it consists of a rectangular top with short curvilinear sides. The top has a flap opening and inside it has a mirror and small drawers, compartments and secrets to store personal items. The underside band, very refined, is decorated with handles useful for opening a drawer and lock in chiselled and gilded bronze. Reserves in gilded bronze frame various segments bringing decoration and brightness to the whole. The four legs are composed of columns with capital in gilded bronze, grooved and gilded stem and cylindrical base surrounded by rings in gilded bronze. The bases of the columns rest on a cube element that optically separates the legs from the feet. In the inner corners of the nuts is inserted a top with a shaped profile and edged in golden metal. The feet are composed of a circular element bordered by a golden bronze ring resting on an inverted cone trunk that ends in a refined golden bronze tip. This coffee table stands out for its simple but elegant line and quality of execution. This is confirmed by the type of application of bronzes, made without the use of external screws and therefore not visible. Stylistically, the maker of the furniture was inspired by the famous artifacts of the great cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener (1734 - 1806). The coffee table can be easily placed in any environment, such as a living room between two sofas, in a study next to an armchair, in an entrance hall or in a room. Very decorative, thanks to its austere and elegant line can be combined with both antique and contemporary furnishings.
